Cortland Standard Returns: Revitalized with Sample News Group

CORTLAND, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — George "Scoop" Sample, who owns Sample News Group, has declared that his company, which publishes more than 75 titles across four states, has taken possession of the assets from the Cortland Standard Printing Company.

The newspaper will restart publication after unexpectedly halting on March 13 due to its bankruptcy filing. The previous publishing schedule of Tuesdays through Saturdays is scheduled to recommence on May 17, according to Sample News Group.

We are delighted to bring back the Cortland Standard for our community," Sample stated. "It’s important that Cortland has access to information and stays connected via a dynamic local paper. Our aim is to make sure that the flourishing community of Cortland doesn’t become a news desert.

Sample News Group also runs eight additional media outlets in New York, such as the Palladium Times (Oswego), The Valley News (Fulton), The Oswego Shoppers, The Oswego County News, The Livingston County News, The Batavia Daily News, the Owego Penny Saver, and the Bee Group (Williamsville).
