'Plymouth Officials Warn of 'Hazardous' Social Media Trend'

The school administrators in Plymouth dispatched a letter to parents on Wednesday, alerting them about a "possibly dangerous" social media phenomenon.

Superintendent Christopher Campbell says this phenomenon is known as the "Chromebook Challenge." It motivates students to shove pencil leads, paper clips, or pushpins into the ports of their Chromebooks.

The aim is to make the device emit smoke or fail to function properly.

"Inserting metal or other foreign objects into electronic devices can lead to electrical shock, fire, or even small explosions," the letter read. “Several incidents have already been reported.”

Mom and dad were advised to discuss with their children the significance of using technology responsibly.

"We acknowledge the significant impact of social media and are dedicated to collaborating with families to enhance understanding and avoid potential risks," wrote Superintendent Campbell.
