LEGO Plans $366 Million Distribution Hub in Prince George County

Iconic toymaker LEGO Group Who is constructing the structure? initial American company to produce the well-liked toys In the Enon area of Chesterfield, there are plans to establish a $366 million warehouse in Prince George County, which is expected to generate 305 new job opportunities.

The office of Gov. Glenn Youngkin revealed the plans on May 8th.

Youngkin referred to LEGO's choice as "an exhilarating new phase" in the collaboration between Virginia and the Danish firm, which commenced three years prior when LEGO revealed its intentions to construct the Chesterfield plant.

"As LEGO strengthens its presence in the Commonwealth, it sends a clear message: Virginia is a place where international leaders can flourish, expand, and achieve success," stated Youngkin in the release from his office.

The $366 million Prince George warehouse is anticipated to be operational by 2027 within the Crosspointe Business Center near Interstate 295. This coincides with the planned opening of the 1.7 million-square-foot facility in Enon’s Meadowville Technology Park for the same year. Upon completion, this manufacturing plant will generate over 1,700 employment opportunities.

The cost of the factory is $1 billion.

LEGO COO: Only positivity ahead for future play

The statement issued by Youngkin’s office quoted LEGO’s chief operating officer as referring to the Prince George warehouse as "a strategic addition" to the Chesterfield plant.

"Both sites will guarantee that we possess the production and delivery capabilities needed to sustain long-term expansion across the American continent for many years ahead," stated Carsten Rasmussen in the release. "This move also aims at cutting down lead times and lessening our ecological footprint via an abbreviated supply line." He further expressed gratitude towards the Commonwealth of Virginia for their ongoing backing and anticipation of delivering additional playtime opportunities to kids both locally and internationally.

Juan Pablo Segura, Virginia's Secretary of Commerce & Trade, stated that LEGO's choice highlights "the robustness of our communities and the skill of our workforce."

"By making this investment, we're bringing top-notch employment opportunities to Prince George County and demonstrating our larger dedication to fostering thriving, dynamic neighborhoods," Segura stated.

Key features attract 'leading corporations'

Local leaders praised the choice as mentioned in the same declaration.

Senator Lashrecse Aird from Petersburg stated that the Prince George warehouse "brings fresh prospects for families and strengthens the backbone of our community." Delegate Kim Taylor representing Dinwiddie County commented that this development "underscores the remarkable potential within our region and showcases Virginia’s commitment to luring high-caliber businesses which provide enduring, lucrative employment opportunities to local areas."

The Prince George warehouse location falls within both Aird’s and Taylor’s legislative districts.

Delegate Carrie Coyner, representing Chesterfield, where the LEGO plant is situated, commented, "By investing in our community members and collaborating effectively, we bring about chances that enable families to remain, thrive, and prosper in their own neighborhoods."

To persuade LEGO to open the Prince George warehouse, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership collaborated with the county and the regional business promotion organization, Virginia’s Gateway Region, to obtain a $2.53 million grant from Virginia’s Opportunity Fund.

VEDP will collaborate with the Virginia Jobs Investment Program to attract employees for both locations.
