Children's Theater of Charleston Secures Funding for New Venue
CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The Children’s Theatre of Charleston is set to undergo a significant transformation soon.
Following this, the Kanawha County Commission provided $80,000 to enable the organization to make an initial payment on a new facility. They needed funding because their current premises have been listed for sale; thus, the leaders reached out to the commission seeking financial assistance to secure alternative accommodation.
The funds come from (table game revenue), which refers to the money that counties get when they host casinos. The commission aims for these resources to ultimately help children over time.
They mentioned that they typically see between 80 to 120 participants annually," explained Lance Wheeler, a Kanawha County commissioner. "These aren’t children, despite the theater’s name being the Charleston Theater. The attendees don’t all hail from Charleston; instead, they travel from various areas across the county. This diversity among the participants played an essential role in our local government’s choice to allocate funding for this event.
The updated site is accessible according to ADA standards, offers increased parking facilities, and is situated in the Kanawha City district.
